Truer words were never written
The phrase “Let them eat cake”, as opined by the doomed Marie Antoinette, has gone down in folklore as a pithy retort when confronted with one’s own hopeless mortality. It is also possibly only the second best Marie Antoinette quote regarding that famous combination of flour, eggs and sugar that occupies a special place in many a heart.
The latest production of the 1981 drama by Peter Whelan, The Accrington Pals, took place at the Royal Exchange in Manchester and delighted those who were able to get tickets. The story takes us on the journey that the smallest town in England went on when raising their own battalion to battle the Bosch. They managed to draft 1000 men, 720 fought in the Battle of the Somme and within half an hour 584 had gone missing, been wounded or were dead. Continue reading
Caleidra is a young starlet rising out of the Manchester local scene and making quite a splash with her newest single ‘Miss Me.’ Although Caleidra has barely made it past her GCSE exams she is already making waves all over the city. On the 8th December, the 8 piece hip hop/jazz collective from East London, Lazy Habits, will be coming to Manchester to play a gig at Band on The Wall. Formed in 2007 as the result of a brainwave from an MC, the outfit who are based in Hackney are now a fully fledged band who create a massive live experience with their boundless energy on stage that guarantees their audience a great night out.
